Yesterday we spent the day in St. Tropez. It’s a beautiful coastal town full of the rich and famous. We decided to head into town and do some shopping. We looked around for awhile and had some great gelato. Because it is the summer holiday and a tourist location it was very crowded. After awhile we were hot and decided to sit in the shade and enjoy where we were. As we were observing people we were amazed at all the ugly shoes we saw. So we decided to take pictures and post them. They were quite hideous. We entertained ourselves for quite some time. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as we did.
Really rainbow flip flops I thought they stopped making those in the 70's.
This last pair is the obvious winner. I had to take multiple photos of it so you could catch the essence of the shoes.
After our last tour excursion we decided that we wouldn’t escort anymore tours. Well as we were heading into town yesterday the guy over the tours asked us if we wanted to do one the next day. We didn’t commit but he said to see him when we got back. Well we decided we just wouldn’t get back to him. He tracked us down and we couldn’t say no. It helped that he threw in a free ticket for me to go as well. Turns out when Char went down to get the information he was so confident that we’d say yes that he had typed her name in on the schedule before we even committed to do it. I guess we are suckers. We were in Monaco today and our original plan was to go to the aquarium and see the prince’s palace. We will end up doing that tomorrow. Instead we headed on a tour to Cannes, Grasse and St. Paul de Vence. In Cannes we got to stroll around for a little bit we went to a market and I also got a few shots of the red carpet from when they have the film festival and the theatre where that is held. We decided today that since we are in France we needed to switch from eating gelato everyday to having pastries. I had a wonderful chocolate éclair today.
In Grasse that is the perfume capital of the world. We went on a tour of a perfume factory. When we found out that is what we were going to do today we were a little bit hesitant about that but it turned out to be great. The tour was short and it was quite interesting.
After that we had lunch in the French Alps at a cute little restaurant. The food was fabulous. They even served us a cheese course which was great. We sat outside on the patio. Although it was warm out It was quite pleasant.
We then headed to St. Paul de Vence. This is an old midevil village where Picasso and Matese painted from. Had I not gone on this excursion I would have never gone to this little town. The streets were quite packed with tourists but we strolled around some back streets where no one was it was a nice afternoon. One thing I noticed today as we were out on our adventures was how narrow the streets were. They were so narrow that if you have a home on the main street you can’t open your windows out to the street because the cars driving on the road would hit it.
Once back we showered because as Char calls it we were sweaty Betty’s. Then we headed for a late dinner. I had escargot for the first time. It was amazing. I will definitely be having that again. After we ate we sat out on the back deck and watched the lights come on in Monaco and Monte Carlo. It was absolutely beautiful.
